Attention Property Owners, Manager, Contractors and Maintenance Staff!!
EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule will become fully effective and enforceable on April 22, 2010, which is right around the corner.
The Rule applies to all “renovations,” including many typical housing maintenance and remodeling activities, performed for “compensation” in pre-1978 “target housing” and pre-1978 “child-occupied facilities” when the work will disturb paint, stain, shellac and varnish that has not been tested and certified as lead free.
The EPA is requiring anyone who renovate, repair, or prepare surfaces for painting (such as sanding) in pre-1978 rental housing or space rented by child-care facilities must be certified and follow the lead-safe work practices required by EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Remodeling rule. This means that if your property predates 1978, your water damage restoration or mold remediation company must either be certified by the EPA or partner with a company who is.
If your restoration company understands lead safe work practices, they will ensure your property has been tested for lead based paint prior to beginning a project that requires disturbance of materials to prevent lead contamination. Our company understands these rules and already implements lead-based paint testing on homes built prior to 1978, to ensure the health and safety of the occupants.
