Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Green construction is building or remodeling homes using sustainable materials.  Sustainable or “green” construction is recommended to create a healthier building while using our resources more efficiently.  Studies have shown that there are tremendous cost savings through green building through improved occupants health and productivity, lower building operation costs, and use of resources more efficiently.

We had the pleasure of working with one such contractor in the Jacksonville Metro Area, Solid Built Construction.  Not only does he use “green” principles in his construction, he is active in the local community through programs such as Habitats for Humanity.  Most recently, his company worked with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on their build that aired February 21, 2010.

“Our goal is to provide homes built with green principles, forever materials (cementitious siding, metal roofs, vinyl windows, pvc exterior trim, etc), recycled/ sustainable materials (bamboo flooring, solid surface counter tops made with recycled material, etc.), energy star rated appliances, solar powered features and at the same time building a beautiful home that is finished on time and on budget.” said Lex Allen, Owner of Solid Built Construction.

Sometimes it is hard to find a contractor that does a great job, but with Solid Built Construction, you will find a contractor who does a fantastic job, a compassionate contractor who cares about you and your project and one who uses green principles.  Wipe Out would like to take our hat off to Lex Allen for helping build a better community and for thinking about future generations!
